Slightly inclined halfway between Noto and Monica, the south-oriented vineyards of Contrada Graffetta belong to the municipality of Ispica (Ragusa). The vineyards face the Mediterranean, stretching out over the sea from those chalky grounds that distinguish the first spurs of the Iblei Mounts. The climate, warm, dry and with a consistent breeze, together with the maritime-mitigated temperature, turn this territory into the natural and optimal production area for Syrah, where the minerality of the soil also enhances the concentration of the fruit. Deep dark red colour; rich and complex aromas with notes of black pepper and nutmeg. On the palate, it displays a rich and varietal-bound taste. “Syrah with appealing plum, blueberry, violet and spice/pepper flavours. A core of sweet fruit sits nicely with fine, drying tannins. Approachable now but should develop well with a few more years in bottle.” – Bob Campbell MW
