About the event

Come join us for an informal evening of Spanish Artisanal Wine tasting, with Brian Carpenter from Bibendum Wine Co.

Wines on tasting:

Mengoba Bierzo Brezo Blanco 2021

This is a superbly tangy, mouth-filling release from some of Spain’s most spectacular vineyards. Redolent of pulpy white stone fruits, some blossom florals and a touch of pepper spice. It’s both textural and thirst-quenching, with tight phenolics, fresh acidity, savoury complexity and a tonic finish. This is a joy to drink and offers tremendous value. Use liberally to wash down grilled octopus and other treats from the sea.

Angel Rodríguez Rueda Verdejo Martínsancho 2021

This wine is always juicy and textural, with a fresh racy mouthfeel and the kind of palate-awakening precision that belies its modest price tag. There's a lovely juicy texture leading to a sappy, stony close. Totally unique and 100% authentic, this is for us, benchmark Rueda—at a price almost too good to be true.

Valdesil Montenovo Blanco 2022

A star-bright introduction to the domaine’s Godello offering, this highland white strikes a balance between incisive freshness, pulpy texture and a mineral, saline-infused palate; topped off by a clean, crunchy and refreshing finish.

Mengoba Bierzo Brezo Mencía 2021

Perez's 2021 release has got everything we look for in a wine from the easy drinking leagues: authenticity, refreshment and fun, with a large side order of place. Putting the value to one side, the great achievement here is that the striking fleshiness of fruit is finely offset by the bright, fresh structure—a balance reflective of the altitude and the diurnal contrast (warm days followed by cold nights). Filled to the brim with sleek and vibrant fruit, it’s a deliciously animated Mencia, full of lacy verve with some gravelly tannins also lending length and gravitas. A real charmer.

Valenciso Rioja Reserva 2015

From an Atlantic styled vintage, the 2015 is a more elegant and finessed release than 2014. The result is a beautifully cool, spicy and elegant Rioja with plenty of strawberry sweetness spiked with resin, brown spices, blood and anise notes. It has a supple texture and a fresh, racy finish. Super classy.

Equipo Navazos I Think Manzanilla Saca de June

Pale straw-green; a mown grass, hedgerow, nutty bouquet. The palate is vibrant, fresh and crunchy, with a classic dry finish, lingering long, with no phenolics, and a fresh breeze aftertaste.

Equipo Navazos PX Gran Solera 25+ YO Saca September

The aged complexity, balance and yumminess on offer here has to be tasted to be believed. This Jerezano method used here results in a less-fruity, earthier, more savoury and complex style of PX.

* This is a casual tasting, come try, mingle and chat. Sample the grazing platters of Jamon Iberico; Chorizo cooked in White Wine; Manchego & truffle Pecorino; Empanadas; White Anchovies; Olives stuffed with Anchoviesd and Spanish Meatballs.
