Exploring the Elegance of Vella Wines from Adelaide Hills

Nestled in the picturesque Adelaide Hills of South Australia lies Vella Wines where owners Mark and Jen Vella have a commitment to crafting sustainable and premium wines.

Mark, a highly regarded viticulturalist with 25 years in the industry, sources fruit from carefully selected parcels off pristinely managed vineyards in the Adelaide Hills.

Current release Vella Wines including the Chardonnay, Pinot Blanc, and Pinot Noir, will be on tasting at Barrels & Stills Hawthorne.

The region's cool climate, elevated vineyards, and diverse soil types create a perfect environment for cultivating high-quality grapes. This distinctive terroir imparts a unique essence to Vella's wines, contributing to their elegance and complexity.

Traditional viticultural practices like hand-pruning and hand picking, combined with the opportunity to select special parcels of fruit from 108 individual blocks around the Adelaide Hills, also adds to the wines drinkability and balance.

Wines on tasting:

‘Harvest Window’ Chardonnay 2018

It’s splendidly ripe and enticing on the nose with golden peach, brioche, vanilla and roasted hazelnut aromas. The palate delivers excellent weight and fleshy texture combined with beautifully pitched acidity, finishing silky and persistent. At its best: now to 2026.

‘Trouble Maker’ Pinot Blanc 2019

Gorgeously ripe and fragrant with apricot, rockmelon, fig and mixed spice aromas with a lovely floral overtone. The palate displays succulent fruit intensity combined with textured mouthfeel and beautifully balanced acidity, finishing delectable and highly enjoyable. At its best: now to 2026.

‘Dirt Boy’ Pinot Noir 2020

Alluring aromas of dark cherry, smoked game, mushroom and cedar, lead to a concentrated palate displaying silky mouthfeel and gorgeously melded tannins. Complex and lingering with attractive savoury nuances. At its best: now to 2028.
